Indian Classical Slide Guitars

The Chaturangui and Mohan veena are Indian adaptation of the Western Slide Guitar, also referred to as the Hindustani Slide Guitar.

The Chaturangui contains 6 primary strings, similar to that of the Western Slide Guitar but has an additional 4 supporting strings, 2 drone strings and 12 sympathetic strings. The sympathetic strings generate a tone similar to the Sitar when tuned correctly.

Tim’s incorporation of a hollow neck has enabled the instrument to evolve in volume and its ergonomic design has immensely improved its tuning and playing ability. These are truly amazing instruments to play and once you find the knack, are surprisingly not that difficult to tune!!

 Mohan Veena

The Mohan Veena is traditionally a modified archtop guitar, originally designed by Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. On this instrument, the sympathetic strings run underneath the top playing strings. String configuration on many Indian classical instruments do vary depending upon the Raaga (traditional Indian music) being played at the time, although the general principles remain the same for both the Chaturangui and Mohan Veena.
